Wether it's hot or cold, winter or summer. You are a man or woman. Don't you need a protective hair break?
Even if you have locs, as I do, I still need a protective break too.
My hair has been loc'd for 7 years now, and I need to let it rest from rolling it and pulling it up or back.
What exactly is a protective style?
It's a hairstyle that protects your hair from heat and styling process to prevent damage and give your hair a break form twisting, flat ironing, blow drying, picking, combing period!
Protective styles protects your hair, because the more you wash, style, and pull on your hair the weaker it gets. The ends of your hair are the oldest and most fragile. A protective style, if done correctly will give your ends and hair a much needed break. Once you choose your protective style you should not leave it longer then a few weeks or two months. That would be a bad choice for your hair care.
Here are a few good options:
Twists (many styles to choose)
Extensions and Faux Locs
Natural-looking clip extensions
Up do's, Ponytails and Buns
Turban and Head wraps (be sure to braid your hair and wear a protective silk cap under the head wrap)
Braids (it's a beautiful thing: many styles to choose)...Ghana Braids, Box Braids, Crochet Braids, Cornrows and more....
Which one have you tried?
If you take care of your braids, weave, wig or whatever style you choose, by moisturizing your hair and keeping your scalp clean, you can wear your protective style for at least four weeks of more, depending on the style you select.
Be sure to nourish your hair and scalp with a natural hair oil or apply hydrating balms before styling your hair. Always sleep with a satin scarf on your head. Clip your ends regularly and never over condition your hair, it makes your hair strands weak and causes damage to your hair.
